Wilkes Martial Arts aims to have a strong presence and positive influence within the Perth community.

Kids martial arts classes improve behaviour and focus in a structured and positive environment. Our kid’s classes run after school and incorporate martial arts techniques in an engaging and fun way. This keeps children in our community active, improves their self-confidence and teaches traditional values such as respect and discipline. Similarly, students from all over Perth attend our adults mixed martial arts, fitness, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Kali-Arnis-Eskrima classes. To learn more about any of these programs, see our current timetable, contact us online, or call 9330 3300.

To maintain our positive influence within the Perth community, Wilkes Martial Arts and Fitness Academy have been busy volunteering with families and schools. On the 13th of September we attended a Family Fun Day at the Como Bowling Club. The family of two of our students were raising funds to participate in the Ride to Conquer Cancer (200km bike ride) and the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers (60km walk). We helped out by collecting gold coin donations from the community to teach kids some basic and fun martial arts techniques! Overall this event raised $5000 to benefit the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. Thank you to Beej and family for letting us be a part of your family fun day once again, we had a great day supporting a great cause.

As part of the Act-Belong-Commit Healthy Schools Programme, Corpus Christi College in Bateman held a healthy lunch hour. This event allowed staff and students to participate in a range of activities, and provide insight into different ways to stay healthy and keep a good state of mind. Of course, exercise through martial arts is a great way to stay fit, and psychologists have found that martial arts can also decrease aggression and lead to higher levels of self-esteem. The Wilkes Martial Arts team attended the healthy lunch hour at Corpus Christi College, and showed the students some self-defence techniques as well as some new ways to keep fit and to challenge themselves. As always, we loved the opportunity to get involved with one of our nearby schools.

To help out at another Perth school, Mr. Mitchell attended a superhero dress up day which had been organised for a student who is confined to a wheel chair. The student is a big fan of super heroes, so the kids were all invited to dress up for his last day at Cottesloe Primary School. Wilkes Martial Arts has also been involved with Spearwood Primary School, delivering anti-bullying talks and fitness workshops as well as donating drink bottles for the kids.

If you’d like Wilkes Martial Arts to get involved with your Perth school or fundraiser, please contact David on 9330 3300. Our experience includes anti-bullying talks, healthy eating talks, fitness classes, self-defence workshops and more.
